After a few weeks of very dry conditions, the chance of rain goes up this week with the passage of a cold front during the next few days. Rain will fall in the early part of the week mostly north of the region but some showers could come in ahead of the front, especially as the front gets closer on Wednesday. As the front moves south later in the week, rain chances will increase farther to the south, and many areas will get at least some rain, although northern areas will likely get more than those in the coastal plain and into northern Florida. Farmers will certainly be happy for whatever they can get, but it is not likely to be enough to eliminate the drought that has been expanding there. Some rainfall maps I have seen show more rain in north GA than this one, but it is too early to say exactly how much we will get because it depends on how fast the front moves.
