The preliminary climate summary for August 2025 shows that most of the Southeast was much colder than normal, with mean temperatures ranking in the top five coldest Augusts on record for many stations in the region. The exception was the Florida Peninsula, which was on the other side of a persistent front and experienced one of their warmest Augusts on record. The temperature was kept low by the cloud cover associated with rain as well as cold air damming, which brought cold air into the region from the northeast along the east side of the Appalachian Mountains. Rainfall amounts were much higher than normal in Georgia and adjacent areas, but dry conditions were present in other parts of the region. It will rank as one of the wettest Augusts in Georgia and areas to the northeast, but one of the driest Augusts in Virginia and parts of Alabama and Florida.
