The latest Drought Monitor, released earlier this week, shows that areas of abnormally dry (D0) and moderate drought (D1) increased in Alabama, Georgia, Florida, and North and South Carolina this week due to the high temperatures and spotty rainfall that occurred. There is currently no drought or dry conditions in Virginia and Puerto Rico has only scattered abnormally dry conditions. There were only slight increases in central Tennessee as well. Next week much of the area will see more rain as a stalled front and cold air damming bring a lot more rain to the dry regions, so there may be some improvements in the drought conditions on next week’s map.
