As I am writing this, thunder is rolling outside my window. The cold front that is moving through Georgia is bringing unsettled weather and some severe conditions to Georgia tonight. By Sunday morning, most of that rain will have moved out of Georgia and we will see dry and cooler conditions for the beginning of the week.

By early Wednesday morning another round of rain will be moving into western Alabama. The southern half of the Southeast can expect to see much rainier conditions from next Thursday through mid-May, although there will be periods of dry weather between the rain events. The Florida Peninsula will still be fairly dry, though. The northern half of the region will get rain from the storm this weekend but after that, they can expect lighter amounts of rain through mid-May than what we are expecting in Georgia and surrounding states. The rain will be welcome relief for farmers who have been experiencing dry conditions for the last couple of weeks, although it could make field work more difficult. Weeks 3 and 4 show warmer than normal temperatures are expected but no indication of rainfall trends late in the month according to the Climate Prediction Center.
