The latest Drought Monitor, released this morning, shows that drought conditions generally improved in Virginia and North Carolina this week but got worse in Alabama, Georgia, Florida, and South Carolina. Overall, 84% of the Southeast was experiencing dry conditions or drought at the time the map was made. There are currently no dry conditions in Puerto Rico and Tennessee saw almost no changes from last week. Remember that the heavy rain that parts of the region got Tuesday night through today occurred after the data cutoff for this week’s map, so we can expect to see changes in next week’s map based on all the rain that fell since the last data cutoff on Tuesday morning.
