A heavy rain event may occur in central Georgia on Wednesday and Thursday as moisture flows into the area from the circulation around Tropical Storm (and likely Hurricane) Rafael and interacts with a cold front there. Up to a foot of rain may occur in some isolated locations. While Georgia desperately needs the rain due to the drought, this much falling over just a couple of days may result in flooding once the soil becomes saturated. If you have areas that are known to flood or live in a low-lying area, you should consider moving your vehicles and livestock to higher ground and make sure items inside your home are not stored on the floor on the lowest level. The map below shows the expected totals through Saturday morning but most of it will occur on Wednesday and Thursday. Note that the actual rainfall amounts and the area of heaviest rain may be shifted west or east depending on the exact track of Rafael, which is not yet known.
