NOAA released the latest monthly climate summary for July 2024 today. It shows that there was a lot of extreme weather across the country this month, including Hurricane Beryl in Texas and the wildfires out west, particularly in California. The average temperature in the Southeast was fairly close to normal compared to the much warmer than normal conditions out west. For the year to date, nearly everywhere in the US is above normal, particularly the northeast quadrant, which is still showing the effects of the record-setting warm winter. Precipitation for July in the Southeast was mostly wetter than normal with the exception of the Florida Peninsula and northern Virginia. For the year to date, precipitation was quite close to normal due to the swings back and forth between wet and dry conditions from month to month.
