The latest monthly climate summary for the United States was released earlier this week by NOAA. It shows that temperatures along the southern part of the Southeast were warmer than normal but northern areas were closer to normal. Precipitation varied across the region with a band of wet conditions stretching through Alabama, Georgia, and North and South Carolina but with drier conditions elsewhere. For the year to date, Florida experienced its warmest January through August since records began in 1895, and most other Southeastern states were in the top five warmest. For precipitation, most states were normal or above normal except for Florida, which was drier than normal. NOAA also noted that there were 8 new billion-dollar disasters in August including Hurricane Idalia.
