The latest Drought Monitor, released today, shows a slow expansion of drought over northern parts of the region in the last week. There was a slight improvement in Alabama with the removal of a sliver of moderate (D1) drought and reductions in drought in Georgia. South Carolina saw an expansion in abnormally dry conditions but has no drought at the moment. Florida’s status was mostly unchanged from last week. Drought also expanded in Puerto Rico this week. After the very wet Easter weekend we are expected to have in the next few days, it would not surprise me if some of those expansions are pulled back. Even Florida is expected to get an inch or more of rain.
