In the past I have written on this blog about olive as a new crop in the Southeast. I know that there have been several test sites planted in Georgia. This article for Growing Produce describes how researchers in Florida are planting olive groves in several locations to test how they handle the varied climate and soil across the state. According to the article, “Over the last 10 years, researchers planted 25 commercial olive cultivars at 30 research and private orchard sites in throughout Florida,” says Rossi, a native Italian. “Olive responses to Florida weather conditions have not been documented and are necessary to develop a local olive industry.”
