Here is a similar story from Yahoo News about what homeowners in Fort Myers Beach, FL, are likely to have to face after Hurricane Ian. Many of the workers who serve in restaurants or run tourist companies cannot afford to rebuild as required to the current building codes, and face losing their homes permanently as people who can afford the extra costs purchase their properties.
In addition, homeowners whose homes survived the storm surge are now having to deal with black mold throughout their properties, which means they have to strip out all the drywall and insulation and even then may not be able to get rid of it all.
