The latest Drought Monitor, released today, shows that while the area of drought only contracted slightly, the area of abnormally dry (D0) conditions was cut substantially by the recent rain, as expected, especially in the mountains. We may see further reductions in drought this week based on the showery activity that we have seen tonight. The biggest changes are likely to come in southern Florida as a wet mass of convection that could become TS Alex moves through the region this weekend. It is is not expected to affect the rest of the region. In Puerto Rico, dry conditions and drought also contracted slightly this week.
