For climatologists, June 1 is the first day of summer. Happy summer to you all! Spring was warmer than normal almost everywhere in the region, but overall it was wetter than normal in more places than it was dry. The temperature pattern agreed quite well with the March through May outlook but the precipitation pattern ended up quite different than what was predicted by NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center. In spite of the wet conditions, drought developed across quite a bit of the region, although the areal extent has shrunk somewhat from the more recent rains. For the year to date, however, the La Nina pattern shows quite well. You can find additional maps at https://hprcc.unl.edu/maps.php?map=ACISClimateMaps.
