As you might expect, some of our region has experienced an increase in abnormally dry conditions in the latest Drought Monitor, released this morning. While severe drought has not changed or slightly decreased (in NC), other areas have seen abnormally dry (D0) conditions expand under the heat and lack of rainfall. In Virginia, Florida, and Alabama, recent showers have somewhat reduced dry conditions but in other states, this has not been the case. Puerto Rico has seen the introduction of severe (D2) drought to an area on the northeast side of the island near San Juan. I would expect further expansion of drought in next week’s map due to the blistering heat and scattered rainfall we have seen.
