The latest monthly outlook for February 2022 was released earlier this week. It shows that the month is expected to be warmer than normal across the region. However, that does not mean we will not have cold outbreaks but recognizes a shift in the pattern to put a ridge of high pressure over the East Coast and a trough of low pressure and cold temperatures in the western US. The precipitation outlook is less certain and shows equal chances of below, near, and above normal across the region except for the south end of Florida. Keep in mind that these monthly outlooks are weighted towards the early part of the month where the skill in forecasting is highest, so late February is less certain.
