Those of you who are interested in weather history might be interested in this blog post from STM Weather on the Children’s Blizzard of January 12, 1888. While is is not a Southeastern weather event, it is a tragic reminder of how fast the weather can change and the terrible consequences of not being prepared. We are fortunate that our weather forecasting and communication skills now make it much less likely that something like this could happen, although as we saw with the snow event in Virginia just a week or two ago, weather still has the power to cause significant impacts on us, especially if we are not paying attention.
