The NWS is predicting the possibility of multiple rounds of wintry weather coming through the Southeast Thursday through Sunday this week. In Georgia, the focus will be on central and perhaps southern Georgia, and early indications are that it is more likely to be an ice storm than snow for most areas other than the NE mountains. There is a lot of uncertainty with these systems, so I won’t go into detail here. You can view the NWS briefing at NWS Atlanta – Special Weather Briefing / Tuesday, January 18, 2022 – YouTube for more information. If you are in a different state, then check your local NWS office for their take on the storms.

If you are in South Carolina or nearby, you might also be interested in the discussions coming out of the South Carolina State Climatology office. They are written by Frank Strait, a former NWS employee, and contain additional useful information. You can sign up for weather alerts on their page at South Carolina State Climatology Office (sc.gov).

Lots of uncertainty with this forecast. I will be back later in the week with more information.
