Most of the Southeast should experience wet conditions over the weekend as a front moves slowly south through the region. By mid-week, the front should be in Florida and drier air should be in place in most of the rest of the region, making good weather for travel leading up to Christmas. Week 2 from Christmas to New Year’s Day is expected to be warmer and drier than usual across most of the region, and the first two weeks of January are also expected to be warmer than usual, with some areas also drier than expected. Even in a La Nina winter we get wet spells! The rain will provide some temporary relief for areas that have seen the expansion of abnormally dry conditions and drought, although the heaviest rain will remain off the coasts.
