The latest Drought Monitor, released today, shows big increases in the extent of drought in the Southeast. Moderate (D1) drought was reintroduced to Georgia and Alabama and expanded in other states. Severe (D2) drought also expanded in Virginia, North and South Carolina as they have had almost no rain in the last few weeks. Conditions in Puerto Rico changed only a small amount since last week. Rain this week will probably keep conditions from getting worse on next week’s map, but dry conditions are likely to return later in the month, which could result in further expansions.
