In this blog, I have highlighted a number of ways that farmers are adapting to a changing climate. One of these ways is to change what types of crops they grow. In the Southeast, producers are adding new crops like satsumas and olives to the traditional mix. Here is a story about a farmer in Sicily who is growing coffee in the mountains for the first time, since the climate there has become more conducive to coffee plants and less welcoming to more traditional crops like citrus. It’s a small crop so far, but likely to grow in the future as farmers learn more about producing coffee in their region. You can read more about it in Atlas Obscura here.
