I was on a Zoom call earlier this week when one of the participants in Washington D. C. abruptly excused himself, saying that they were under a tornado warning and he was headed for shelter. The tornado passed through the region of Arlington and the National Mall while he and his partner watched from their car very nearby. I can relate to his description of watching the ground flashes as the tornado broke power lines along the rain-wrapped path, since I saw something similar with the Atlanta tornado a number of years ago.
