If you have ever wondered about whether or not weather shown in the movies is real, you might enjoy this YouTube presentation on weather and the movies. It includes clips from five different movies that have significant weather in them, including “The Wizard of Oz” and “Twister”. The presenter, Ed Szoke, spends the first 9+ minutes describing his background in meteorology, so you might want to start around 9:20 if you just want to listen to the movie part. You can view it here.

The Washington Post also has a good story about the Wizard of Oz tornado at https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/capital-weather-gang/wp/2014/08/15/its-a-twister-75-years-later-wizard-of-oz-is-still-a-tornado-classic/.

Of course there are many other movies with weather involved, including a number that just make me cringe. And I haven’t even seen Sharknado. If you have a favorite movie with interesting weather in it, let me know and I will put it on my list.
