I’ve been getting questions about the peaches this year, so this is a timely article about the peach season in Alabama and Georgia. While we had a warm winter, most varieties of peaches appear to have gotten enough chill hours to make a good crop, according to an article today in Vegetable and Specialty Crop News. The article points out that the low chill hours affects the shape of the fruit, which was a new piece of information to me. It also says that farmers are watching the next couple of weeks carefully, hoping that no frost occurs. We are watching that here in Georgia as the long-range forecasts do show the potential for some colder weather coming up in the next two weeks, although it is not likely it will get down to freezing in most areas other than the mountains and local cold spots.
