The drought in southern Florida has allowed large areas of the Everglades to dry out even more than usual in this dry season. The result: fires are increasing and causing issues for peat, which is getting so dry that it burns easily. This results in air quality problems and hampers the ongoing restoration of the Everglades, since peat stabilizes the marshes that make up the bulk of the Everglades. You can read more at WLRN here.
