The latest monthly and season climate outlooks were released by NOAA today. Both April and the April through June periods show that warmer and wetter conditions are likely for most of the Southeast. The exception is for the Florida peninsula, which is expected to be warmer and drier than normal in the short term, leading to the likely development of drought there soon (it’s already getting abnormally dry). With an earlier than normal spring, the early growth of plants, which deplete soil moisture, and the warm conditions, any prolonged dry spell could lead to the development of a flash drought, although that is not predicted at this time. We will be watching closely over the spring and summer to see what happens.
