After the first two weeks, May 2019 is slightly wetter than normal across the region, with a drier than normal area in eastern North Carolina. Temperatures across most of the region are well above normal, especially in the Carolinas and Virginia. In spite of the above-normal rainfall, the hot temperatures have increased evaporation, putting stress on plants and leading to increases in dry conditions. The next week should be mostly dry, so the moderate drought may expand again in the next Drought Monitor.
