The latest 7-day QPF map for this week shows that the entire Southeast will receive at most only minor amounts of rain. The high pressure that is sitting over our region is effectively shutting down most of the rain that would bring relief to the region, and is leading to temperatures that are much higher than average and in some cases may make it into the triple digits. We will still see some pop-up rain showers like those that occurred yesterday in parts of the area, but no widespread rain is expected. Meanwhile, farmers in the Corn Belt are getting hammered by heavy rain, which has kept them from the fields and is forcing them to consider turning to other crops with shorter growing periods.
