I’ve never been to Gulf Coast except for a brief trip to Destin FL, and another to St. George Island, so I have never experienced what visiting that part of the country was like before Hurricane Michael. Now, residents are struggling to determine what comes next. In Mexico Beach, where the storm did its worst, many residents will probably not be able to rebuild because their older homes must now be rebuilt to newer and stronger standards, which could price them out of the market. The Los Angeles Times had an interesting story about this crisis, which you can read at https://www.latimes.com/nation/la-na-florida-hurricane-michael-mexico-beach-20181022-story.html. Like many communities after a hurricane, it will probably never be the same.
