In recent weeks there have been a lot of thunderstorms across the Southeast due to plentiful soil moisture and good triggering mechanisms for vertical development. Some of the storms have produced strong winds and large hail.  I’ve seen a number of pictures of the hail that has fallen as well as some of the damage it has inflicted on crops in the area. Here in Athens we had hail that was larger than golf-ball sized (fortunately for me, on the other side of town from my house) which caused a lot of damage to cars and trees. In other areas, it has caused a lot of damage to crops. In some cases, fields have been obliterated by the heavy stones. You can read a story about the impacts of hail on crops in Arkansas from AgWeb here.
