Georgia is this year’s winner for the most tornadoes so far

According to the USDA’s Water and Climate Update for April 6, “The number of tornadoes touching down across the U.S. are at a near record pace for 2017. The NWS records starting in 2005 report the number of tornadoes are the second highest as of April 5. 486 tornadoes have touched down thus far, with 46 occurring in just the first five days of April. Severe storms have been sweeping across the country with tornadoes reported from the Gulf Coast and southern Florida to the northern states. The severe storms have also produced damaging winds and hail. Rare tornadoes have also been reported in the far West.” You can read their report at

In addition, the Weather Channel noted that Georgia is leading the pack with the most confirmed tornadoes observed so far this year witn 55 as of April 3.  This does not even include what occurred on the stormy Wednesday April 5, which had several more tornadoes reported across the state.  You can read more at
