Even though most people are watching colder temperatures and a slight possibility for wintry precipitation this weekend, especially in the northern mountainous areas, I think the real concern this week is going to be the potential for a hard freeze mid-week across a lot of the Southeast north of the Georgia-Florida border.  This could be the coldest air to hit the region since early January.

The most likely date is Wednesday morning, although Tuesday and Thursday mornings will also be close to freezing in many areas.  It could be colder on Thursday morning in the eastern Carolinas as the dome of high pressure moves east.  Some forecast models indicate that we could experience below-freezing conditions for up to 12 hours that night, which could cause significant harm to fruit trees that are already blooming due to the warm winter conditions we’ve been having this year.  If you have crops that are frost-sensitive, you are going to want to watch this situation carefully.
