UPDATE: Georgia EPD has just declared a Level 2 Drought Response Level in selected counties in Georgia.  See below for more details.

The latest Drought Monitor shows worsening conditions across most of the Southeast but especially in Georgia.  The Drought Monitor authors told me that since November 11 they have gotten 61 comments on the Drought Impact Reporter (most from Georgia) and they are finding them very helpful at identifying areas where the drought has gotten worse.  I may try to put a list of some of the comments on the blog later this week.

I know some of you will still be frustrated that they are not moving faster, but we certainly have their attention now, and with almost no rain in the forecast for the next week, further declines are likely.  Drought has increased in all states, with increases in D4 exceptional drought in Alabama, Georgia and North Carolina, and it has also been introduced into a small portion of South Carolina as well.

UPDATE: Note that Georgia EPD has just elevated Georgia’s Drought Response Level from Level 1 to Level 2 in selected counties in the state. In those areas, there are now restrictions in those areas about when you can water and also restrictions in the use of water for things like washing cars and houses at home.  You can read the list of restrictions at Walter Reed’s blog at https://www.walterreeves.com/how-to-archive/georgia-drought-level-2-rules/.
