The Georgia Farm Bureau has a nice video on the current status of the peanut harvest in Georgia.  You can see it here at a link from Growing Georgia.  As you’ll hear, the peanut yields this year have been OK but not great due to the hot and dry conditions that hit parts of the peanut-growing region, even though they were not in the worst drought region.  Hot soil temperatures had to be cooled by irrigation to help the peanuts develop, leading to increases in water use in many areas.

How do farmers know when it is time to harvest?  Growing Georgia has an article on the skill it takes to judge when peanuts are ready to harvest here.
