Today, February 2, marks the traditional celebration of Groundhog Day. Thousands of media converge on Punxsutawney, PA, to see if their captive groundhog Phil sees his shadow. If he does, it means six more weeks of winter. Somehow this year Phil managed to see his shadow even though Pennsylvania is completely overcast today. Or was the forecast stacked to match what most real climatologists think is going to happen?
In honor of the marmot’s big day, here are some links to stories about the groundhog tradition and forecasting skill:

As a climatologist, “Groundhog Day” is one of my favorite movies. It also makes me love this meme.
