A website from UGA Cooperative Extension

Many of you have been asking about the Using Pesticides Wisely (UPW) Training for this year, so I wanted to give you an update as to where we are in the process. The trainings will begin in March and will be virtual. Everyone will be required to take it this year regardless of whether you took it within the last two years. Please see the requirements for each of the herbicide technologies below.

All applicators driving the tractor/sprayer applying these herbicides (Engenia, FeXapan, Tavium and XtendiMax) must attend Using Pesticides Wisely during 2021 prior to using these products. As mandated by federal law, one must hold a private or commercial pesticide license to apply these products. Labels specifically state “To be certified applicators only; NOT to be used by uncertified persons working under the supervision of a certified applicator, except that uncertified person may transport containers.”

All persons in charge of in-season applications of Enlist or Enlist One in Enlist cotton or soybeans must attend Using Pesticide Trainings prior to using these products.

I would also like to mention – as most of you are already aware, all applicators applying paraquat will have to have a private or commercial pesticide license. They are also required to complete an EPA-approved training module before applying. You can click here to go to the EPA-Approved Paraquat Training site. Be sure to print the Certificate of Completion for your records.

The private pesticide license can be obtained online and I suggest for those needing it to go ahead and get it done. Please click here for information in regard to obtaining the private pesticide license. If applicators go ahead and get their license before the UPW Trainings begin, they can get those credit hours from the meeting applied to their license. There is a cost of $25.00 for the private pesticide license.

You will receive dates, times and other pertinent information in regard to the UPW Virtual Trainings in the near future. Please let me know if you have any questions.
