A website from UGA Cooperative Extension

Recent harvest conditions have been ideal for our peanut and cotton farmers.  We have done maturity clinics and checked peanut fields for optimum digging and harvest timing of peanuts, and we have also looked at many cotton fields with growers to plan defoliation and harvest.  Harvest activity is also steady in our vegetable fields at this time, and pecan harvest is beginning.  Fall is a great time of year as the harvest of the year’s labors are coming in.  We are thankful for our local producers in agriculture!

Hopefully with harvest moving along so well, growers will be able to make plans to take a little break and attend these ag-related events next week: the Sunbelt Ag Expo, October 15-17, 2019, and the Georgia Peanut Festival, October 18-19, 2019.

The Sunbelt Ag Expo is known as “North America’s Premier Farm Show”. This is the 42nd year of this agricultural-based trade show. The Expo has 100 acres of exhibit area and a 600-acre working research farm. Visitors can take a tram from the exhibit area to the farm and see cotton, peanuts, soybeans, corn, and hay production. There will be demonstrations in harvest, tillage, irrigation and precision ag, as well as equipment driving ranges. There are over 1,200 exhibitors showcasing the latest products and technology. Educational seminars and demonstrations will also be taking place during the 3-day show. We hope that you will have a chance to visit the Sunbelt Ag Expo, and maybe we will see you there.
