October is a busy month for us all. Last week and this week were filled with livestock show duties, and next week I will be at the Expo for the entire week. I am the VP for the Georgia Association of County Agricultural Agents (GACAA), and part of my duties includes managing our Expo Food Booth, so if you’re down at Sunbelt, swing by and get a BBQ sandwich and a honeybun.

Cotton:

Dodging a little rain and overcast weather is the story of this week. I really like 3 clear days for the defoliant to work really well. The forecast looks clear for the next few days, and it will be a bit cooler at night next week. Reminder about rainfree periods – thidiazuron is the biggy here. It needs 24 hours, but can be reduced to 12 hours when mixed with a phosphate (i.e. Folex/DEF). Thoughts on rates for next week:

  • I still think we need to be in the 4+ oz/acre range with our Dropp.
  • Folex/DEF, 10-12oz.
  • Ethephon needs to be in the 32 to 42 oz/acre range.

Peanut:

Peanuts are still tracking the same, mid-140s for 06s, TifNVs, and late 150s for 12Ys. I haven’t heard any yields or grades this week, but last week’s sounded really good. The pressure washer will be set up next week, but I will not be at the office until Friday. Regan will be there throughout the week to assist y’all.
