Peanuts are still looking good. Most varieties (06G, TiftNVHG, and 913s) that I have looked at are still hitting the low-to-mid 140-day range. I have only looked at a few GA12Y samples, and they are pushing 155+. I am not aware of any, but if you have any Florun-725, from what I’m hearing from surrounding counties, it looks like they are getting ready earlier than initially expected, about 130-140 Days after planting. Leaf spot is a major issue right now; I don’t know that I have looked at a peanut field that does not have it. Watch the leaves; some varieties can handle more defoliation than others. Once you get to 40-50% defoliation on 06G or Tift NVHG, you will lose peanuts if you don’t dig them. GA12Ys can handle a little more defoliation, but not much. The picture below is 60%+ defoliated; at this stage, these plants will start kicking pods. I recommend bringing your vines to the office when you come to check maturity. That way, we can look at disease and peg strength. I will be out of town next Wednesday through Friday ( 9/23-9/25), so if you need peanuts checked, please bring them to me on Monday or Tuesday.
