New research has predicted a possible El Niño event for next year. Now, this is the first time that scientist has used this new method but it predicts an 80% chance of an El Niño occurrence in 2020. Why do I care about El Niño weather patterns? To the south, an El Niño means a calmer Atlantic hurricane season, a wetter and cooler winter. El Niño effects are felt mostly in the fall/winter. This has implications for the following growing season because we need winter rain to build up our soil moisture leading into April and the start of the planting season.
