We definitely got some much-needed rain this week. I had just a tick under 3 inches at the house. I have some good information on Lesser Cornstalk Borers and White Mold in some post this week so be sure to check those out. Scott Utley found something pretty cool this week. Peanuts that grew upside down. It is called Geotropism. What happened was that soon after planted the peanuts were planted they received a cool shower which cooled the soil above where the peanut was planted. when it began to emerge the plant naturally moved towards the warmer soil which happened to be beneath the plant. This caused it to invert and grow upside down. About 20% of cotton is squaring right now so we need to be on the lookout for plant bugs and conducting square retention counts. the goal is to make it to first bloom with 80% square retention. That mark has shown to help with max yield potential. Hold your heads high, focus on the positive and stay cool.
