Getting your Trinity Audio player ready…

For over two and half years now I’ve been writing this blog, posting weekly (more or less) about well-being, taking care, and managing stress in order to keep thriving on the farm.

In addition to tips and suggestions for stress management, I’ve shared thoughts and musing about family, loss, and life. One of my big messages, which I hope you’ve heard and taken to heart, is that through good times and bad, you are valuable and important and you deserve to take care of yourself.

In all my writing I’ve tried to be honest, telling you about my experiences and feelings and what I’m learning from them. Between the sadness of my parents’ passing and the joys of my daughters’ weddings I’ve learned a lot, and hope I’ve been able to pass on a little bit of it to you.

I’ve also shared some thoughts about getting older and passing the torch on to the next generation—something I know lots of farmers think about as they age and plan for the future of the family farm.

Over the past months I have been thinking about all I have written—deserving a break, taking care, getting older, managing stress—and I’ve realized that I need to walk my talk if I’m going to be true to myself and what I’ve written.

So, at the end of this month I will stop working for UGA Extension and I am going to retire.

Working with the people at UGA, people in industry in agriculture, and especially farmers and farm families, has been the greatest privilege and honor of my career. Thanks to each of you for working with me to promote farmer and farm family well-being and mental health. And thank you to everyone who has read this blog– I’ve appreciated each messsage you’ve sent me, each story you’ve told me, and each moment we’ve shared.

I hope a few of the things I’ve posted on the blog have stuck and that you will continue to take care of yourselves and each other.

Wishing you health and joy…and keep thriving!

Warmly,
