April has been busy for our 4-H’ers and two of our competitive judging teams were able to show their skills at competitions the month. On April 14th, the Dairy Judging Team competed at the State 4-H contest held at the UGA Teaching Dairy. Team members were Luke Huff, Abby Gabriel, and Camden Huff. Camden Huff took home 1st place bragging rights in the Junior Reasons division while her brother Luke Huff tied for 1st in Senior Reasons. Luke also was awarded 5th High Overall Senior Individual at the state contest.
On April 25th, Oglethorpe County Extension hosted an area contest for 4-H poultry judging teams in northeast Georgia. Our local 4-H club had a great day with the Junior Team placing 8th of 14 Junior teams. Then our Senior team was named the contest winner! 1st place out of 9 teams. The Senior 4-H’ers will get to compete at the state contest May 5th because of their success.
