UGA Extension Henry County will be hosting the Journeyman Farmer Certificate Program, which is for those interested in starting a farm business or those who have recently begun farming and want to improve their operation. USDA defines a beginning farmer as anyone who has been farming less than ten years continuously. It consists of two parts: the Small Farm Business Planning and the Fruit and Vegetable Production Section. The Journeyman Farmers Certificate Program Small Fruit and Vegetable Production Section covers a multitude of subjects relating to crop production.   The program was developed in partnership with Georgia Organics and the Georgia Fruit and Vegetable Growers Association. Topics include Soil health and fertility, soil amendments and fertilizers, cover crops, crop rotations, pest management, crop selection, crop propagation, equipment, post-harvest handling, food safety, and marketing. It will be held on Thursday February 26, 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, Friday, February 27, 9:00am to 4:00 pm, and Saturday, February 28, 2026, 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. The presentations are given by UGA specialists with accompanying textbook and other materials. The program will be held at the Global Growers Rockdale Organic Farm located at 2730 Bethel Rd NE, Conyers, GA 30012. The cost is $80.00 per participant.
