The international Project WET foundation offers a variety of free educational resources.  Given the recent interest in handwashing, you may be interested in Project WET’s free online Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) training program.  WASH started in 2007 as a way to reduce the spread of preventable waterborne diseases in Africa.  The online training course for educators provides great content about water, microorganisms (a 5th-grade science standard connection), and hand washing.  It didn’t take too terribly long to complete, and I enjoyed learning about the resources.  Plus, since it’s an international resource, the materials are provided in a variety of languages.

As a reminder, the COVID-19 virus has not been detected in drinking-water supplies, so please don’t be confused.  (The EPA has provided great information concerning water and COVID-19.)  However, proper handwashing is a great way to prevent the spread of microorganisms, including bacteria and viruses such as COVID-19.  Additionally, keeping our waterways safe for consumption is equally important.
