Georgia 4-H is happy to host Mission Make-It: The Georgia 4-H Engineering Challenge, held this year on Saturday, September 09, 2023, at Rock Eagle 4-H Center from 9:00 AM – 4:30 PM. Mission Make-It is an exciting educational, non-competitive event for middle school students to engage in the engineering design process, teamwork, and critical thinking. Our 2023 theme focuses on the strange phenomena of Idaho’s 1948 beaver repopulation strategy that included parachutes! Seriously … it’s a real thing: https://www.boisestatepublicradio.org/environment/2015-01-14/parachuting-beavers-into-idahos-wilderness-yes-it-really-happened.
Due to generous 4-H donor support, registration for the 2023 Mission Make-It is $5.00/person, which includes lunch, facility fees, supplies, and insurance. Mission Make-It is open to any 6th-8th grade 4-H member in the 2023-2024 school term. Registration is limited to the first 250 people (youth and adults), after which individuals will be placed on a waiting list. There is no limit to the number of 4-H’ers a county may bring. Event Registration will remain open until Wednesday, August 30th, at 11:59 PM.
We encourage Military Installation staff to fill a van full of youth to attend and/or promote teens to register directly through the local extension office. At $5 a participant, this is a great opportunity for middle school teens to meet others, spend time at Rock Eagle (always fun), and gain new knowledge about science topics. If you plan to register teens and take them to Mission Make It as a military group connect with Laura Goss at laurwalt@uga.edu. I will provide the additional steps to enroll the youth and get them registered.
