During a virtual National 4-H Military Partnership meeting, Dianna Ganote from the Office of Military Family Readiness Policy of the Department of Defense, Military Community, and Family Policy, shared that Military OneSource needed updated resources to support teen audiences. The Georgia 4-H Military Liaison, Laura Goss, highlighted the success of the Preparing to Be a Professional curriculum published internally by two Georgia 4-H Agents. This resulted in a partnership to create a video series targeting military teens with professional development skills. Abbie and Allie, Georgia 4-H Agents, condensed and revamped media tools for four 15-minute educational videos targeting military teens. The videos were published as four virtual live Facebook events on the Military OneSource page in April 2022.
The recorded videos can be viewed on the MilitaryOneSource website. Along with the corresponding videos, there are simple guidelines and practical activities for youth to use for continued learning to connect the videos to the viewers.
The video series can be shared as a way to engage virtual learners, to support at-home family conversations around job readiness, and as an alternative teaching tool within schools and afterschool programs.
are you interested in teaching the curriculum yourself instead of using a recorded video? We have you covered! Contact Laura Goss at laurwalt@uga.edu for the curriculum, handouts, and the accompanying PPT presentation.
