We had a great webinar about the 2022 National 4-H STEM Challenge, Explorers of the Deep.  The challenge focuses on the mysteries and adventures of ocean exploration with 3 exciting activities: Ocean Robot Test Tank, Ocean Expedition, and Ocean Communicator.  The activities are designed for youth ages 8-14 and could be completed during an in-school club meeting, one-day event, festival or exhibit, or as a series of activities throughout the year.

Training Materials

If you weren’t able to join the live action and fun, you find a recording of today’s training on the Georgia 4-H Science Trainings & Resources Kaltura page: https://kaltura.uga.edu/media/t/1_d5mflv1a/51638021

The PowerPoint Slides from the training can be viewed in the following PDF.

Evaluations

Although it’s not required, we have developed a Georgia-specific evaluation tool you could use with your participants.  There is an electronic (https://ugeorgia.ca1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_bwkMmVSFxt0St0O) and paper evaluation (see below PDF to download).  Once the evaluations are completed/entered, we can pull a county report and send it to you.  If you choose to have youth complete the paper version, we’d be happy to enter them into the system – – – contact me (kaseyb@uga.edu) and we can arrange mailing, discuss timeline, etc.

Ordering Supplies

You can order the 2022 STEM Challenge Kit Explorers of the Deep from National 4-H Council!  Kits cost $24.99, and include materials for 6 youth or more if rotating to participate in the offline activities simultaneously. Check with your military leadership to see if funding is available and the branch-specific way to order supplies. One kit will have the following supplies:

  • 1 facilitator guide
  • 6 youth guides
  • 1 ocean glider card set
  • 1 ocean glider
  • 1 board game
  • 1 ocean communicator cards set

Additional youth guides, ocean gliders, and board games can be purchased separately.

Gratitude

Thank you to Kasey Bozeman, 4-H Science Specialist, for compiling this information and supporting an effective implementation to include evaluating the program too.
