About EiE:

EiE®, the award-winning curricula division of the Museum of Science, Boston, develops research-based, classroom-tested programs that empower children to become lifelong STEM learners and passionate problem solvers. Since 2003, [they’ve] designed PreK-8 curricula to encourage all children, including those from underrepresented groups, to see themselves as engineers. Our flexible print, online and blended hands-on programs bring engineering, science and computer science together to prepare today’s students for a fast-paced, global, technology-savvy futur (EiE).

Ideas for Use:

Children as young as 3 can use the designed curriculum! There are several designs and topics. One of the designs I thought could be a nice change up for the youth is the digital Storybook collection. The child can read books at their own pace or as a class while learning about science topics. Check out this storybook about pollution. It is always fun to do experiments, but providing a diversity on how youth experience science is ideal for the diversity of learners within your program. The storybooks also have kits you can purchase if you want to extend the learning experience. Lastly, the previous is a great resource for virtual or face-to-face programs.

Other than the storybooks there are plenty of ready to use kits for staff to use that focus on computer science and other great science topics. While, these are not 4-H created lessons staff can still use them for a 4-H Science Club activity as they are research and well-tested lessons. Staff should ensure proper youth supports (mentor and scaffolding) are provided, say the 4-H pledge, ensure youth feel they belong, and that youth work to master a skill.

Special Thanks:

This resource was shared by Jenny Jordan, Navy 4-H Specialist. I love when we share ideas, resources, templates, and the like. If you have a curriculum, lesson, or attended a professional development that was helpful please share with Laura Goss @ laurwalt@uga.edu. We create a stronger program for our audience when we share together! Our goal of providing positive, educational, and engaging opportunities for youth/children is achieved when communication is open. Thanks in advance for sharing.
