A little background about Laura- As a child, I grew up on a small chicken farm and tree nursery. As a child, I remember playing with baby chickens and even taking a few of the sick or hurt chicks into the house! We loved caring for the baby chicks even if we were not too successful. Sadly, some chicks had to go to the chicken graveyard. Every chick we cared for had their own burial ceremony. Even though we were not always successful with nurturing the chicks back to health my four sisters and I learned a lot from our experience including learning about the life cycle, the survival of the fittest, and incubation too.

Louisiana 4-H created a BRAND NEW downloadable curriculum for educators to use that focuses on incubation. In order to prepare educators, they are also providing training online. I encourage you to bring a little agriculture into your programming on base. Chickens are a great teaching tool on many topics and I am very excited about learning more about this curriculum as I attend the training alongside you all too. Of course, I should highlight that incubation is more than just chickens! We all know Lousianna is proud of their alligators, so it will be fun to learn more about what agriculture companies are incubating and learn about those animals too.
