We have two exciting “Zoom into Science” sessions scheduled for July.  We plan to continue to offer at least one session each month (maybe more!) for the foreseeable future.

We ask our presenters to gear the content for upper elementary and middle school students.  However, we do realize that many families may be watching together, so it could be a great educational experience for younger or older youth.

You are encouraged to share this information with 4-H families, schools, educational groups, other youth-serving organizations, etc.  Anyone can participate – – – they just have to register!  We’ve also seen great success with county 4-H offices creating online Facebook events for each session, so this could be something your youth-center does as well.  Social media graphics (PNG files formatted for Facebook) are inlcuded for easy promotion; all you need to do is share!

All about Paleontology: July 9, 2020 at 4:00pm eastern – Neil Shubin, world-renowned paleontologist and discoverer of Tiktaalik roseae will be sharing about his work and important discoveries in fossil records.  Please note Dr. Shubin’s original session in June was canceled, due to a family emergency.

All about Water: July 23, 2020 at 4:00pm eastern – The Southwest District 4H2O Team will be sharing all about the importance of earth’s water.  This long-standing, successful 4-H program is shifting to a virtual format in 2020!  Presenters include Debra Cox, Mitchell County Extension 4-H Educator, Sylvia Davis, Baker/Mitchell County Extension FCS Agent, Brian Hayes, Mitchell County Extension ANR Agent, Cale Cloud, Southwest District Extension Water Agent, and Calvin Perry, UGA Stripling Irrigation Research Park Superintendent.

These online, 1-hour zoom sessions allow participants to learn more from experts in their field as well as being exposed to a variety of science-related careers.  Each Zoom will end with a “question and answer” session with the scientist(s), allowing your 4-H’ers to directly engage with these individuals.  Families will pre-register using the links provided.  E-mail confirmations with the Zoom log-in instructions will only be sent to registered attendees.
